Senior Portraits at Burden Gardens | Ella Bremer, Dunham Class of 2026 | Baton Rouge Photographer

Ella Bremer's senior portrait session at Burden Gardens leaned into something a little different than a typical floral, garden-party feel: the oak trees. Where spring blooms tend to steal the spotlight at Burden Gardens, this session was all about the towering canopy of Windrush Gardens at golden hour — warm light filtering down through the branches, casting soft, dappled patterns across every frame.

Why the Oak Canopy Makes Such a Striking Backdrop

Windrush Gardens, the twenty-five-acre section of Burden Gardens known for its majestic live oaks and ancient crape myrtles, gives senior portraits an entirely different mood than the brighter, more floral corners of the property. It's moodier, more timeless, and a little more dramatic — the kind of backdrop that feels less like a garden session and more like a quiet, cinematic moment. For Ella, that oak canopy gave her gallery real depth and texture, especially once golden hour light started filtering through the leaves.

Golden Hour Under the Oaks

Timing this session for golden hour meant the light had to work its way through the tree canopy rather than falling directly, which created a softer, more layered kind of glow than an open-sky session would. It's one of my favorite effects to work with at Burden Gardens, and it gave Ella's session a warm, golden feeling that felt entirely different from a typical bright, floral senior gallery.

Congratulations, Ella

Ella, congratulations on your senior year at The Dunham School. Thank you for trusting me with such a beautiful evening under the oaks.
