Anderson’s Timeless In-Home Newborn Session | Baton Rouge Newborn Photographer
There is something so special about photographing a newborn at home. These are the rooms where the first weeks unfold—the nursery that was carefully put together before baby arrived, the chair where so many feedings and snuggles will happen, and all of the little details that suddenly become part of a family’s everyday life.
I loved getting to photograph Anderson Tate Cumlander at home with his mom, Hannah, and dad, Kyle. His newborn session was quiet, relaxed, and full of the sweetest details.
Anderson’s nursery felt like it could have been pulled from the pages of an old Pottery Barn catalog in the very best way. Soft blue and green, gingham, ducks, collected artwork, books, and vintage-inspired pieces gave the room so much warmth and personality. It felt classic rather than trendy—a room that will still feel special years from now.
One of my favorite details from the session, though, was Anderson’s bassinet.
The bassinet is an old family heirloom, which made photographing Anderson in it especially meaningful. I love when families incorporate pieces with a history into their newborn photos. Babies change so quickly, but an heirloom like this can continue being passed down through generations—and now Anderson has photographs of himself sleeping in the very same piece that was part of his family’s story long before he arrived.
We spent part of the session documenting Anderson on his own: his tiny feet, sleepy stretches, little expressions, and all those newborn details that somehow disappear almost overnight. His simple white clothing against the soft blue-and-white fabric made those portraits feel especially timeless.
Then we slowed things down for photos with Hannah and Kyle.
Some of my favorite images from an in-home newborn session are often the simplest ones—mom holding her baby in the nursery chair, both parents leaning in to look at this brand-new little person, or a sleepy newborn curled against the people who already know every tiny expression. There doesn’t need to be much posing or anything elaborate happening. This stage of life is enough on its own.
And even the family pup made an appearance, which always makes an at-home session feel that much more like a true snapshot of life right now.
Why I Love In-Home Newborn Sessions
There is a beauty to newborn photographs that are taken in the place where you’re actually bringing your baby home.
An in-home session allows us to preserve more than what your baby looked like when they were tiny. We can photograph the nursery you spent months preparing, the meaningful pieces passed down through your family, and the ordinary places that will eventually hold so many memories.
And years from now, those details may mean just as much as the portraits themselves.
Anderson’s newborn session was such a beautiful example of that. Nothing needed to be overly styled or complicated. Just a sweet new baby, his parents, a beautiful room prepared especially for him, and an heirloom that connected this brand-new chapter to generations that came before.
Welcome to the world, Anderson Tate.
